Session 1: Islamist, Jihadi movements: ideology, goals, and impact. A follow-up discussion: What should be the related domestic policy of Europe and the foreign policy of the United States?
Session 2: US immigration of recent decades: differing characteristics, contributions, shortcomings, and other effects. A follow-up discussion: Going forward, what should be the particulars of a US immigration policy? Session 3: From climate change to deforestation: worldwide environmental stressors, projections, possible mitigation measures, and related politics. A follow-up discussion: What should be the government policy going forward? Session 4: The intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict: its roots, reasons, and history. A follow-up discussion: What is the optimal political settlement, all considered? Session 5: Presentation and discussion of troubling implications of some transformative technologies of the future (e.g. omnipresent, self-preserving mass surveillance system; the ability of people of wealth to purchase genetic enhancements for their babies; and ubiquitous robots who take over meaningful human labor). Session 6: The War on Drugs, effects, results, costs. A follow-up discussion: what should be the legal status of recreational drugs, distribution and usage. time commitment: 6 sessions, each 90 minutes long.
